‘An Evening with the Royal Courts - Putri Sa’dong and Siti Dewi’ was presented to Queen Monineath Sihanouk at the Palais du Gouvernement Wat Phnom, Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1995. The following year, Azanin’s latest creation “Tun Fatimah” was presented to a full house and our King and Queen graced the premier night. This success led to a television programme, which was telecast by ASTRO on the 25th and 31st August 1998, a special programme celebrating our National Day. The programme was again telecast on 25th. August 1999 for the “Hari Wanita” and also on the 27th. and 29th. August 1999 as a build-up in celebration of our 42nd. Independence day. 1998 witnessed another historical moment when Azanin Ahmad & Music Ensemble presented a special performance in November. at WOMAD Festival ‘98 at the Gran Canarias, Spain, with the title “And the Music Dances”. It was indeed another milestone in the journey of the nation’s artistic traditions as this was the first entry of the Malaysian performing arts industry participating in the highly prestigious and international WOMAD festival (World of Music, Arts and Dance). It was officially recorded that nearly 100,000 audiences witnessed this festival. Even the dance workshop conducted by Azanin was a record sold-out event and became a front-page coloured feature in the local Spanish daily. |
After the triumphant debut in WOMAD Canarias, Azanin was invited to perform once again for WOMAD, and this time was for WOMAD festival in Rivermead, Reading, United Kingdom in July 1999. The performance “Keris” was performed for two nights at this three-day international festival whereby more than 20,000 paid-audiences attended the three-day festival.
En route back home to Malaysia, Italy saw Azanin with her solo performance at the Montecosaroteatro Festival, in July 1999. A dance workshop was also conducted here with the attendance of the highly enthusiastic dance and theatre practitioners. Coming back from the above successful overseas trip, Azanin presented the dance drama “Tun Fatimah” for a special royal performance in conjunction with the birthday celebration of DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan Perak in November 1999. The new millennium for Suasana Cultural Centre began with a dance theatre performance, which was presented for the 35th.Southeast Asia Central Bank Governors’ Conference held in January 2000. The year 2001 marked another international performance for the company. WOMAD once again invited Azanin and her music ensemble to participate in its prestigious event. In September, Azanin presented “A spiritual Journey in Dance” in Johannesburg, South Africa. |
